In this session, mandatory reporting of central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and its impact on reimbursement will be summarized. The evidence that supports, and the results highlighting, the central line bundle on infection rates among hospitalized patients will be discussed. Because interventions of the central line bundle are aimed at the time of catheter insertion, it is critically important to now focus on post-insertion care. Such care is critical as patients transition between hospital units and across the continuum of care.
